Now Zofia
This site is dedicated to the village Zofia, now in Ukraine, where my grandmother was born. The Bekert Family History was compiled over several years by my Aunt Madeline Stanley. She also collected the materials contained here on this website for all the descendants of the many families who share this place in common. Although it is at times a tragic account of displacement, it is also based on the first hand experiences, told by a variety of persons, which together create a beautiful image of a time and place that should not be forgotten. I am pleased to have had some small part in it's telling, as I was the first from my family to venture back in almost 100 years, and with this several branches of our family were reunited. I now wish to pass this on those who are on a similar quest. There is always hope!
