Svatý Jan pod Skalou to Karlštejn Close to Prague you can wander amidst the peaceful forest of Bohemia Centralis. Hiking along the old paths, where centuries before the noblemen of the Přemysl dynasty worshiped in caves and erected great castles. The great mystery of legends is uncovered as we wend our way into the Berounka River valley and through the most cherished landscape in Bohemia. Depart from the center of Prague (meeting at your hotel). Transfer to Srbsko, where the hike will begin. Travel along well maintained forest trails to Svaty Jan pod Skalou, where we can stop for a picnic lunch. Continue past the Bubovice waterfalls to Karlštejn castle (perhaps the most scenic approach). The distance covered will be about 16-18 km. The terrain is not too steep or challenging, and suitable for novice hikers. A tour of Karlštejn castle may be possible before returning to Prague (optional). Svaty Jan pod Skalou Baroque Monastery at site of 9th century hermitage. According to legend, Saint Ivan lived in the cave below the cliffs (site of the existing church). The Baroque church of Saint John the Baptist and the Benedictine monastery date from the 17th century.Karlštejn Seat of the Bohemian Kingdom during the time of Karl IV. The most well known and visited of all the Czech castles outside of Prague.
